position is a very important part of the Illinois Springfield Soccer
Academy. The Academy offers a specialized camp that focuses on the
goalkeeper position. We are fortunate that our Academy Director, Jesse
Miech, is an experienced goalkeeper trainer. He has the experience of
training some of the nations top goalkeepers. He has been the goalkeeper
coach for Clemson, Missouri State, Virginia Tech, and Saint Louis. A handful of his goalkeepers have moved to the next
level to play professionally for teams such as Chivas USA (MLS), Columbus Crew (MLS) Sogndal (Norwegian Premier League), LA Galaxy (MLS), Toronto FC (MLS) and Saint Louis FC (NASL).
The structure of the goalkeeper camp will be a balance of specific
goalkeeper training and challenging games. The goalkeepers will start
each session with a specific topic. Focus will be put on many different
areas of the game such as crosses, shot stopping, shot handling,
breakaways, angle play, set pieces, and distribution. As each session
builds, goalkeepers will be put into realistic game situations leading
up to small sided challenges that brings out their competitive edge.
The Goalkeeper Camp will
start on Saturday, June 20th and will conclude on Sunday, June 21st. The camp is split up into two appropriate age groups (junior and senior camps). There will be a certified trainer on the premises in case
of an emergency. This camp is open to all boys that will be entering 9th through 12th grade for the Fall of 2015. Each camper is
expected to bring their own sack lunch, water bottle and soccer ball.
Each camper will receive a free UIS T-Shirt.
The Goalkeeper Camp will take place on the men's practice field on the campus of the
University of Illinois Springfield across the street from Kiwanis
Field. Bathrooms will be available in the soccer stadium along with
shelter space in case of severe weather.
Full payment is
required upon registration. A partial refund will be given to campers
that provide a medical reason for cancellation accompanied with a note
from their doctor.
